Push Away

Required Equipment

  • A wall or firm platform to “push” from.

Starting Position

  • With a neutral trunk, place arms approximately shoulder width apart against a firm wall or other platform.

Procedure

  • The movement is similar to the “push up” but is done from a height that allows the “push up” movement to be achieved.  You will lower yourself to the firm surface and then “Push away” from the surface.

Coaching Keys

  • Keep your trunk straight.  If you are having trouble keeping your trunk straight then use a taller platform.

How It Should Feel

  • This derivative of the push up should feel as if you are slowly lowering yourself towards the wall or platform and then “pushing away.”
